Exploring the Canadian Rockies – Lakes, Glaciers, Parks and Wildlife

Exploring the Canadian Rockies – Lakes, Glaciers, Parks and Wildlife

Why go to the Canadian Rockies in 2017? About a year ago a message popped up on my Twitter feed. It said all the national parks in Canada will be free in 2017 to mark its 150th anniversary. I immediately started planning my travels to the maple leaf country. First order of business is to order the Park permit pass (which is free of cost) in order to obtain access to the parks. As you can imagine Canadian National Park issued a record number of passes this year due to high demand. You can order your pass from the Canadian…

Ecuador, South America

Ecuador, South America

My 6th country in South America and 50th country in the world, Ecuador is a paradise for those who love nature. With its mystical beauty, snow-capped peaks along the avenue of volcanoes (some are still active) spread across the country, countless waterfalls in Banos, second highest capital city in the world, hugging clouds, rolling hills, cows and sheep grazing the slopes of the mountains. With the exception of Ireland, Ecuador has to be the greenest countries I have ever visited in my life. It seems almost everything is painted in green. This planet continues to amaze me. Ecuador in a…

How to plan Cherry blossoms trip in Japan

How to plan Cherry blossoms trip in Japan Japanese call it “Hana – mi” which literally means Viewing of Cherry blossoms. The Cherry flowers are referred to as “Sakura” in Japanese. When did this tradition originate and how did it become a popular activity among both the locals and tourists? I have always wanted to witness the “Hanami” in person and use that as a reason to travel across Japan. It was almost early March when I finished my rather long backpacking adventure across South East Asia. I was taking a break in India for a few weeks. The northern…

Hyperloop fastest land based transportation system

Hyperloop fastest land based transportation system

Hopefully Hyperloop becomes a reality and not just a dream. Currently China and Japan boasts the fastest land based transportation system (bullet trains) in the world (at about 350 km/h). Hyperloop can top that speed at 1200 km/hr. It will take just 30 minutes between SF and LA. The challenge is to build the infrastructure across the state (and potentially the country). Technologically feasible but is it practical to implement? The thought process is that bullet train system costs more money (estimated at 68 Billion USD at today’s dollar value) and takes about 15 years to complete. Hyperloop costs less…

Where to flee if Trump gets elected as the next President?

Where to flee if Trump gets elected as the next President?

For U.S residents only. Let’s face it. The possibility of Trump getting elected as the next President of United States is getting closer to becoming a reality. Independents tend to sway the outcome of every major election one way or the other and most Independents may not vote for Clinton. In any case some people truly believe Trump will make America great again (as his campaign message goes) and believe him to be the best choice to lead the free world. But if you are one of those looking to exit the country because you don’t imagine living under Trump’s…

Back to Medellin, Colombia

Back to Medellin, Colombia

Back to my favorite city in the world. This time I am going to stay here for a couple of months. Medellin has a lot to offer. All the activities in the sports stadiums (Inder Deportes) are free including the gymnasium, soccer and tennis lessons, swimming pools etc. The city wide biking system (encicla) is absolutely free. Of course you have to return the bike every hour but you can take another one immediately. Biking in Medellin is much better than in NYC. You have dedicated bike path which allows one to bike without any intrusion from other traffic. Plus…
